I look forward to sharing my college tips with you! But first, let me tell you a little about myself.

My name is Kayla Williams, and I’m a PROUD ATLien! I was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. I am proud to be a product of the Atlanta Public School System. My mom didn’t attend college and worked several jobs to ensure my sister and I never wanted anything! She always emphasized education was the way to open doors of opportunity.
Therefore, my mother enrolled my sister and me in everything. We were a part of the Upward Bound, Girls Scouts band, Little Ladies of Mecca, Teens Conquering Challenges, Girls, Inc., and study abroad programs, to name a few.

These programs molded us into who we are today. Our mom never wanted us to tiptoe with anything in life. Instead, she encouraged us to give our all in everything we did.

So, when it came time to choose a college, I remember the obstacles I faced as a first-generation college student. The college admissions process was complicated and daunting to remember deadlines, apply for scholarships, and complete financial aid forms on time. But, after much trial and error and precious life experiences, I achieved my goal and graduated from college twice!

After earning my Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration at the University of West Georgia, I continued my education on a scholarship. In addition, I received a debt-free Masters of Education degree in Professional Counseling, emphasizing student affairs. During my six years at UWG, I fell in love with helping other first-gen college students succeed and graduate.

Afterward, I began my career as a college recruiter and have worked through several students facing functioning areas at some of Georgia’s prestigious colleges. Bill Gates recognized some of my efforts in the retention and graduation initiatives of “at-risk” students. I wanted to do more for marginalized students and parents in my community to provide a guided, stress-free approach when applying for scholarships and college applications.

I believe, with the proper guidance and resources, every student can create a path to personal success. Being an advocate for students is the foundation of helping them avoid the pitfalls I once encountered with the transition and college admission process. Through my determination as an advocate, All-Star College Coaching was born!
