I began The Granola Guru in my early twenties, shortly after graduating from college. It has always been a lifelong dream of mine to begin my own artisan food business. I first learned to make granola at a café where I worked at on campus. However, I wasn’t able to find any granola of the same caliber in any of my local grocery stores. As a result, in 2018 The Granola Guru was born at a Bay Area farmer’s market. I sold 40 bags at my debut and developed a loyal following of customers that returned week after week. For the first year my mother and I spent 12 hours a day baking the granola by hand in a commercial kitchen. My mission is to redefine the taste, health and quality of typical store bought granola. All of my superfood granolas utilize locally sourced ingredients, are gluten free, vegan, low in sugar, refined sugar free, and baked with healthy oils in small batches. Currently, my product line consists of four flavors: Mixed Berry Vanilla, Golden Glow (Turmeric & Ginger), Banana Cacao Nib, and my newest flavor: Classic Hemp. My personal favorite is The Golden Glow- an antioxidant packed blend of turmeric, ginger, and toasted coconut. My company is minority and women owned. Production has since expanded to a co-manufacturing facility in downtown Oakland where each batch is still handcrafted by a small team of women weekly.
Earlier this year I landed my first choice distributer. I’m rapidly expanding my retail locations on a weekly basis. Currently, my products can be found in 100+ Northern California stores spanning seven counties. My granola is sold in a combination of independent retailers, specialty markets, and regional chains.
As a young solo female entrepreneur I like to refer to myself as a one woman army. The only aspect that I outsource now is streamlining manufacturing, packaging and distribution, but even then I keep a close eye on my product’s trajectory.
