I started Urban Elite Beauty in March 2019 from my pain growing up in Philadelphia, PA. What I mean by this is growing up in the ’80s was hard for me because of being a dark skin African American male. I was teased because of my skin complexion was dark and in the black community growing up in the 80’s being dark skin was not popular! I was teased so bad, I questioned why God create me with none of the qualities of an Al B Sure or Shemar Moore! As a result of being teased I developed low self-esteem, low confidence in myself, depression and I was extremely shy and always walked with my head down. It wasn’t until I saw dark-skinned celebrities such as Tyson Beckford and Wesley Snips is when I felt like I had a little hope! I enjoyed playing basketball as a youngster and actually become pretty good at it, to the point where in elementary school I score 40 points in a game and lead my team to a championship, and in middle school scoring 60 points in a game and hit several game-winners. I began to realize that people loved me for my basketball abilities and my skin complexion was never an issue. I went on the be ALL Public in high School and went on to play basketball in college. When I was on the court my confidence was high but once I stepped back into society, I could not shake being conscious of my skin complexion. I had no confidence, was still extremely shy and I always felt nervous around people because I thought they were talking about my skin complexion. One of the things I told myself was,” if I had an opportunity to help people not feel the way I did growing up and help them to love themselves regardless of what their skin look like, I will do it! I did not know how I was going to do it but was praying for the opportunity. I was rewarded the opportunity several decades later when I worked in the cosmetology field. I recruited students for proprietary schools that specialized in hair, makeup, skincare and more. During my 10 years working in the cosmetology field, I saw thousand of people get services done at our schools. We had the local community come into our school to get their hair done, nails done, makeup done, etc. I notice that people personality, their disposition, confidence was at an all-time high. When they first came into our school, I notice that people were hunched over, they look defeated and I can tell low self-esteem because I suffered from these same destructive qualities. This is when I realized that I can help people feel good about themselves through beauty services, it clicked in my brain! I decided after 10 years in the cosmetology field it was time for me to do my own thing and start a business that will help people feel good about themselves regardless of what their skin complexion is or what they look like! Urban Elite Beauty was birth and my message is simple…… We want people who use our services to feel good about themselves, build self-esteem, confidence and create self-love! I believe that if a person feel good about themselves, their outlook on life will be brighter! Our motto is Love thy HAIR, Love thy SKIN, and Love THYSELF. Our VISION is to be a world-class skincare brand that educates and promote self-love, high esteem, & self-confidence amongst communities will serve. Our MISSION is to provide our customers with quality skincare solutions that enhance their inner and outer beauty. Today we have thousands of customers all over the world, with countless testimonials on Google and our website! We just launched a Vitamin C Moisturizer Cream for people who have hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, and unwanted fine lines and wrinkles. I am working on creating a coaching program on helping people who want to become entrepreneurs and start their own skincare line. Hoping to launch January 2022!
